2011 is the European Year of the Volunteer and Muintir na Tíre wishes to mark it by rewarding the efforts of its volunteers nationally. The Muintir na Tíre Volunteer of the Year award sponsored by TASK Community Care is given to a member of a Muintir na Tíre affiliated unit, who has made a significant voluntary contribution to the work of Muintir na Tíre and their community during the year.

Do you know an outstanding volunteer in your organisation?

The awards will recognise those who:

• Encourage people to get involved in the group’s activities
• Help with the events and activities during the year
• Promote the Muintir na Tíre organisation
• Engage with the local community for the good of the entire community
• Work around the clock on a voluntary basis

For the recognition of volunteer service in Community Development there are three categories:

• Providing a community service,
• Community facilities, and
• Fundraising

with one to be selected as National Winner.

For the recognition of volunteer service in Community Alert, five regional winners will be chosen together with one to be selected as the National Winner.

The prizes will be €500 for Regional Winners and €1000 for the National Winner.

Nominations will be considered by the Muintir na Tíre awards panel in October 2011. Selected volunteers will receive awards in recognition of their voluntary contribution to the Organisation and one from each category will be announced at the Muintir na Tíre Volunteer of the Year at the Awards Presentation in November 2011.
